Professional salon hair products are supposed to only be distributed to professional hair salons. These hair products are being sold in drug and grocery stores.

Typically, professional hair care products are purchased from a hair salon and recommended by a licensed hair stylist. Now, these professional products are being seen in many of the mass retailers such as Target, CVS and Walgreens. Many people do not even know that this is a problem. Diverted product is often not safe, more expensive and, in many cases, may not even be real.

What is Product Diversion?

Professional Hair Products have begun lining the shelves of grocery and drug stores. The products look the same, sometimes they smell the same and they appear to be just like what is purchased at the salon. This is what many professionals in the hair industry call product diversion. Many of these professionals are not even sure where the products are coming from. In most cases, there is a disclosure on the back of the product that only guarantees the product when it is purchased from a professional hair salon.

Are the Professional Hair Products Sold in Grocery and Drug Stores Safe?

According to the John Paul Mitchell website, www.paulmitchell.com, the products may or may not be real. If they are not real, they may be counterfeit or very old. The website also claims that there was a lab study performed by FOX news that showed enough bacteria to make a person very ill. The paul Mitchell website reminds buyers to beware of diverted product. The only way to guarantee that the product is reall is to buy from a professional hair salon or hair stylist.

Are These Professional Hair Products Cheaper? It is suprising to find out that most professional hair products sold in grocery and drug stores are even more expensive than in the salon. The markup of the product is sometimes two to three times more than the suggested retail price or the salon price.

Forget Convenience and Get the Real DealToday's world is based on convenience. Everyone is trying to get things done faster and quicker. In this case, regarding professional products, it is best to forget being convenient and just be safe. Purchasing your hair products at the salon may be inconvenient but at least consumers can have a guaranteed product. Most Walmart stores have a professional salon inside that sells professional hair products. In addition, most shopping plazas and malls have a professional salon. Next time you need to purchase your professional salon hair products, purchase them from a hair salon only.
